No season of The Flash would be complete without a dedicated Gorilla Grodd episode. Season 5 does the formula one better by also throwing King Shark into the mix. While this episode can’t entirely escape the sluggishness that’s been weighing down the series for months, it does offer some great giant monster payoff.
While basically a filler episode with little relevance to the main Cicada plot, at least “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd” fits in neatly as part of the ongoing metahuman cure storyline. Cisco and Caitlin have their cure. The problem is that they need to test it on a willing patient, and there’s currently a dearth of metahumans eager to give away their powers. Bringing King Shark back into the fold only makes sense at that point.
