Batman #72 Cleverly Ties the Series Together

Almost a full year after Batman #50 brought a swift end to Batman and Catwoman's romance, writer Tom King finally peels back the curtain to reveal how that issue (and every other chapter of the series) tie together. The result isn't necessarily a series of earth-shattering revelations that fundamentally change how we look at the series. For one thing, King already laid out most of this information in a recent interview. But more importantly, seeing all these dots connected simply makes sense. There's obviously been a clear, focused plan from the very beginning of the series. Now is simply the satisfying moment where we get to see those years of hard work start paying off.

The emphasis with issue #72 is on tying together the threads of the book's first two years. What unseen role did Bane play in the events of "I Am Gotham"? How did his plot against Batman continue to unfold during the long buildup to the wedding? Everything fits together to form a clear tapestry of revenge. Even villains like Joker and Riddler who have played fairly small roles in the series outside of the flashback-heavy "War of Jokes and Riddles" are revealed to have crucial parts in this saga. In short, most of the questions raised by the final page of Batman #50 last year are definitively addressed. In fact, every questions but one, which has subtle but intriguing implications for the upcoming "City of Bane."
