Warning! Full spoilers follow for Swamp Thing Season 1, episode 5, titled "Drive All Night." In recent news, we learned that DC Universe has canceled Swamp Thing, but the streaming provider will still release all of the remaining episodes.
A quick note before starting this week's review. This is going to be the last weekly review we do for Swamp Thing. We'll check back in with Episode 10 and see how well that episode works as a series finale.
It remains to be seen if Swamp Thing will establish any direct ties to Titans or Doom Patrol before meetings its truncated end. But if nothing else, the series is quickly establishing a shared universe of its own. In addition to focusing more attention on recurring supporting characters Madame Xanadu (Jeryl Prescott) and Daniel Cassidy/Blue Devil (Ian Ziering), this week's episode throws in another major supernatural DC hero, the Phantom Stranger (Macon Blair). Why the series needs such a large cast of supernatural heroes in addition to Swamp Thing himself is still very much a question it needs to address. But even so, having so many fan-favorites under one roof has its definite appeal.
