Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
Fear the Walking Dead seemed to have its act together after the midseason break led us into that effective Nick episode, "Grotesque," but now it's making some really questionable structural choices - ones that bring up painful memories of some of the tricks The Walking Dead tried to pull last season with regards to fake-outs and cliffhangers.
Last week left us hanging by not showing us Madison and Strand's fate. Not that the Walking Dead shows don't thin the herd in big ways sometimes, but neither of these characters were going to bite the dust. Not like this. Not before we even caught up with Travis and Chris. So having their fate stand as an episode-long mystery this week, in 'Do No Disturb," felt really silly. Especially that one moment when Alicia saw the walker who had hair like Madison and the show attempted to fool her, and us, for a few seconds. These are tired tricks that cheapen the show's currency - which is, of course, death.
