We’re now six games into the main series of Phoenix Wright, and at this point fans know exactly what to expect. A series of seemingly unrelated trials that ultimately weave together towards one climactic end, a cast of hilariously eccentric characters with pun-tastic names ripped straight from a prank call punchline, and a variety of cross examination techniques at your disposal to help strip away the subterfuge in each witness’ testimony. Spirit of Justice ticks all of these obligatory boxes but doesn’t really bring much else in the way of innovation, and with its uninspired investigation gameplay and a severely bloated middle act mired by mystical mumbo jumbo it’s unfortunately one of the weakest Ace Attorney games to date.
