Activision announces Call of Duty World League with $3MM on the line

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Activision has announced it has created the Call of Duty World League, a worldwide eSports league that will cement the publisher’s dedication to not only its popular first-person shooter franchise, but to eSports teams and its fans.

The Call of Duty World League will be comprised of two Divisions: Pro Division and The Challenge Division. Both will feed into the grand finale of the competitive Call of Duty season. The Pro Division will include professional Call of Duty teams across North America, Europe, and Australia & New Zealand and will kick off in January 2016. The Challenge Division will allow amateur and other aspiring pro players to compete against one another. The winning teams in this division will earn themselves a spot in the Call of Duty Championship through competing in a series of official LAN events.

The Call of Duty Championship will move from the spring to the fall of 2016, which will give players enough time to hone their skills in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. The championship will have over $3 million on the line between series payouts, LAN events, and the Championship itself, making this the biggest total prize pool for Call of Duty eSports.
