TBS will start airing eSports events featuring Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in 2016

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Turner Broadcasting and WME/IMG are preparing to take eSports a little more serious as TBS is set to broadcast a total of 20 live events over the course of 2016.

A new eSports league will be created that will have its events broadcast live on the cable network. Turner and WME/IMG have partnered with Valve to feature Counter Strike: Global Offensive as the game of choice for the newly-created league.

The 20 events will be aired live in front of a studio audience on Friday nights next year, which will be split between two blocks across 10 consecutive weeks. The league will also air additional matches online during each tournament week and profiles on the competing teams.\

eSports has become increasingly popular over the years, with the latest big-name event even breaking records. This feels like the start of something much bigger as we’re sure it’s only a matter of time until eSports becomes more mainstream, although we still think Sundays will always belong to football.
