With the recent tie-in mini-series out of the way, Geoff Johns' Darkseid War storyline can finally move forward again. This issue again teams Johns with artist Francis Manapul as the duo close out the second act and pave the way for the big climax ahead. This issue looks fantastic, but it very much reads like a transitional chapter rather than a thrilling addition to the Darkseid War saga.
If nothing else, this issue and the preceding one make a strong case for why the tie-in mini-series needed to exist. Johns doesn't devote much attention to the various transformed League members, instead limiting his focus mainly to Wonder Woman, Power Ring and Mister Miracle. Those tie-ins fleshed out the other characters and their new powers in ways Johns simply doesn't have the room for here. As with previous issues, it's nice to see Wonder Woman taking center stage and Johns really digging into the character in a way he's rarely done with this series.
