Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
After watching tonight's South Park finale, I'm still not really sure how I feel about it. Parts of it were very strong, and most of the elements from previous episodes dovetailed in clever ways. Then again, other parts were left by the wayside, and the overarching plot never quite reached the epic climax I think I and most fans were expecting. Either way, "PC Principal Final Justice" definitely felt like it was stitched together in six days -- more than most episodes do.
Funny enough, I thought the most entertaining aspect of the finale was also the only one that didn't reference previous episodes: the gun subplot. Not only did it bring about some great jokes, but it was also surprisingly insightful considering how interwoven it was with the larger story. For one, I loved how the boys getting guns was as easy as cutting away to outside, with Cartman nonchalantly adding, "Okay, we got guns." Of course, the best part about it was how everyone in South Park got a gun, alluding to the fact that there is now one firearm for every man, woman and child in America. I also thought it was funny how the guns were "used" to solve problems without even firing them. ("Wow, these things are amazing!") To that end, South Park's gun show -- which was humorously set up like a dog show -- was a fitting place for everything to go down. ("There'll be so many guns that nothing bad can happen," right?) Alas, this is also where things really started to fall apart.
