Watch AMD at Computex 2016 here

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Computex, the annual computer expo that emanates from Taipei, Taiwan, begins tonight, May 31, at 10p Eastern / 7p Pacific. According to AMD's Twitter account, you can catch the livestream from the conference on the manufacturer's website, which will update with a live feed once the broadcast begins.

Wall Street Journal published an extensive report on what consumers and analysts should expect from AMD's show tonight. Front and center, graphics chips based on its Polaris technology should begin arriving in June. With Polaris, AMD hopes to lower the cost-of-entry point for VR-ready PCs by a significant margin, from a minimum of around $1,000 to roughly $700.

AMD's Radeon RX cards will attempt to deliver high performance for use with VR gear, and have been certified by HTC and Oculus for use with Vive and Rift, respectively.

Check back here for the livestream beginning tonight at 10p Eastern / 7p Pacific.

AMD Announces 7th-Generation A-Series Processor

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

AMD has gone a long way to offer extraordinary practicality with a real bang for your buck, and today at Computex 2016, the company has unveiled its latest 7th-generation AMD A-Series chips. Stating that the chips will deliver "hands-down super performance at every price point," there are some lofty claims being made here. But also some extremely impressive ones.

AMD asserts that the new 7th-generation A-Series APUs are actually 56 percent faster than 2014 hardware when it comes to performance. That's extremely impressive when compared to Intel, which has only moved upward about 25% over the last couple of years.

The A series features the FX, A12, and A10 lines, which will feature some of the best integrated graphics AMD can offer. They're meant mainly for use by laptops, which is great news for on-the-go gaming and performance. AMD also made it clear that most of the hardware will come bundled with a video game (A6 and E2 chips excluded.)

There's no pricing information or release dates for the new processors just yet, but that should all be coming soon. It's an exciting time for PC gamers to be sure.

Person of Interest: Episode 100 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

For its 100th episode, just four episodes out from the series finale, Person of Interest unleashed one of its most intense, heartbreaking, and haunting installments to date. An action-packed, crushing blow to help lead us into what's mostly likely going to be a very dark endgame for our heroes.

For seasons now, we've known - and have been told by our beloved characters - that the war against Samaritan was to be a costly one and that any victory would be a pyrrhic one. So watching members of Team Machine fall was to be expected. That doesn't soften the blow, but "The Day the World Went Away" pretty much kicked off a symphony of glorious misery that I presume will follow.

AMD Unveils Radeon RX 480, A VR-Ready GPU Priced At $199

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

During AMD's Computex 2016 keynote, the company made several striking announcements, namely the fact that its newest Polaris architecture-based card, the Radeon RX 480, is releasing this June.

The RX 480 is touted as being VR-ready and will retail for $199, delivering desktop-class virtual reality experiences for a fraction of what it will cost ot purchase the necessary equipment. In a market where graphics cards routinely cost hundreds, this appears to be AMD's bid to jumpstart the market for VR with a card that's absolutely capable of the power needed to ensure setups like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift require.

The official specs as provided by AMD are as follows:

TFLOPS: > 5
CUs: 36
Memory Bandwidth: 256 GB/s
Data Rate (Effective): 8 Gbps
Memory Size: 4/8 GB GDDR5
Memory Bit-rate: 256-bit
Power: 150 W
VR Premium: Yes
AMD FreeSync™: Yes
Display Port: 1.3/1.4 HDR

As the June 29 release date wears ever closer, it's expected AMD will eke out additional information about the card itself, but it's good news for PC gaming enthusiasts and anyone looking to enter the VR sphere without the deep pockets it previously required.

Killing Floor 2 Is Coming To PlayStation 4

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Deep Silver is looking to publish the sequel to its zed-killing simulator Killing Floor 2 on PlayStation 4 later this year. If you enjoyed the gorefest on PC, you'll definitely want to give it a try when it hits PS4.

Deep Silver announced the upcoming release care of Tripwire Interactive and Iceberg Interactive for this year with additional details, though we first learned about the upcoming PS4 version back during the PlayStation Experience in 2014.

The game will feature six-player co-op or solo play, new enemies, and a whole lot of carnage. If you've never played through a Killing Floor game before, this should be an excellent addition to your repertoire of zombie-slaying games, because there are plenty of ways to dispatch the creeps and even more reasons to jump in and try it out. There are plenty of opportunities for bodies to be ripped limb from limb and strewn across the battlefield, and that's always a reason to try out a game I've never tried before in my book.

Doom: Find all 36 Elite Guards

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Like the weapons in doom, the Doomguy’s Praetor suit can be upgraded and improved through collecting a series of Praetor upgrade points. To find these, you’ll have to take them off the corpses of Elite Guards. These are, of course, scattered throughout Doom’s campaign.
*Note: In total, there are 36 Praetor points up for grabs.*

The UAC
• The Elite Guard corpse in the UAC is located beyond the blue door. Defeat the enemies within and venture down the upper path in the room. The corpse will be at the end, leaning against the wall.

Resource Operations
• Collect the yellow key card, and then return to the security station. Open the door to the station and interact with the terminal inside. An entry located between the station and the gore nest will open up, revealing an Elite Guard inside.
• Unlock the doors in the security station, and then return to the place where you originally collected the yellow card. A new door to the right will have opened. Enter, turn left, crawl through the vent in the room, and you’ll enter the room adjacent to the yellow door. The guard will be leaning against the forklift.
• Open the doors in the VEGA security room, enter into the next room, and turn left. The guard will be located in the small room at the end, through the corridor.

Foundry
• Walk into the corridor near the field drone and enter the door. Making two right turns, come to the collapsed bridge, descend to the bottom walkway, and climb into the end. The corpse is in the attached room.
• Enter the yellow door area and head to the crates stacked on each other off to the side. Climb up, and you’ll find the Elite Guard inside.
• The Elite Guard corpse will be at the end of the level, through the big doors.

Argent Facility
• Look for a small ledge hidden to the right of a large blue structure. The corpse is inside.
• Jump down from the edge when en route to the cooling facility. The path below will be rocky and eventually leads to a guard corpse.
• Before destroying the Argent filter, turn to face the semicircle part of the arena and step onto the ground to its right. The guard is at the end to our left. You will have to jump up and grab a ledge.
• The last guard in the Facility is tucked away behind some crates on the left of the second gore nest.

Argent Energy Tower
• Cross the bridge, watch the cut scene, and jump down to the platform on the right. The guard will just be hanging out there.
• The Elite Guard corpse here is tucked in the dead end opposite of the main path direction of the curvy corridor.
• Make your way to the upper level of the tower, and then use the battery track to get to the above level. While jumping up the shaft, check behind the middle pillar at the top for the guard.

Kandingir Sanctum
• Open the yellow door and the guard will be directly to the right.
• Enter the blue door, bypass the objective marker, turn right at the end of the path, and jump across to the smaller land mass across the way. Follow the path and you’ll find the guard.
• Open the blue door and the large door. After this, you will enter an arena with pools of blood in the room beneath. Clear it out, ascend the steps across the room from where you entered, double jump past the yellow launch pad, and the guard will be at the end.
• Just beyond the pit full of demons fighting each other, turn right. The guard will be propped up on the arena wall.

Argent Facility (Destroyed)
• Fall into the hole of the roof after some platforming. The guard is inside the room, directly behind you.
• Make your way to the rea beneath the security station. Jump on the crates near a rocky ledge with a rue, go to the edge while facing backward, double-jump onto the below platform, and you’ll find the guard at the right end of the pipe.
• Open the airlock in the security station, engage the demons inside, and then jump using the jump pad and you’ll find the guard in the above area.
• Get the yellow key, drop down from the elevator shaft, jump to the opening below, and you’ll find the guard inside.

Advanced Research Complex
• Enter the women’s restroom, step on the sinks, and jump into the ceiling hatch. The guard is located through the passageway, on the floor of the below room.
• Exit the service elevator and turn left. You’ll see the guard leaning on crates toward the end.
• Come out of the ventilation shafts outside the BFG labs, then turn left and you’ll see the guard through the door, inside a small room.

Lazarus Labs
• Fight demons in the container room, then enter a dimly-lit ret vent. Climb the above ledge, jump into the opposite shaft, kick the grating through, and you’ll find the guard inside.
• Open the large doors wedged between the exits of the med bay fight to find the second guard.
• Activate the healing stone, and then jump into the pit located in the center of the same room.
• Activate the Energy Refractor, enter the doors, and make a right into the small room. Climb into the gap of the wall, and you’ll find the guard below.
• Come out of the ventilation shafts outside the BFG labs, then turn left and you’ll see the guard through the door, inside a small room.

Titan’s Realm
• Clear the room filled with Cacodemons and Lost Souls, then jump to the square platform flanking the bridge. Drop down, activate the skull switch below, run to the right of the room, and you’ll find the guard in a little cave.
• Collect the yellow skull, drop into the slimy area below, turn left, and the guard is leaning to the right in the next room.

The Necropolis
• Use the blue skull, then drop down the holes, then jump from stone to stone on the floating stone walkway. The guard will be to your right by the entrance.
• After fighting in the area containing the Barons of Hell, the Cyber-Mancubi, and Specters, the guard will be to the left of the doorway.

Vega Central Processing
• Pass through the opening airlock and you’ll find the guard in an alcove to the right.
• Enter the Sector P Access storage room, and you’ll find the guard’s body ahead.
• Clear the station of demons, board the cargo lift, turn to face the opposite direction, and jump down. The guard will be hidden away underneath.

Powers: Season 2 Premiere Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

PlayStation's Powers is back for its second season, featuring the "Who Killed Retro Girl?" storyline that kicked off the Brian Michael Bendis/Michael Oeming comic series over fifteen years ago. Season 1 may have had a handful of flaws, but I did like the idea of not starting things off with Retro Girl dead. Getting to know her (as played excellently by Michelle Forbes) was a good thing as we now enter a world that's mourning her shocking, unceremonious death.

Better too, this time around, is the chemistry between Sharlto Copley's Walker and Susan Hayward's Pilgrim. Perhaps the fact that they're not allowed to work together on the Retro case, because Walker's too close (and eventually a suspect himself), made for a better opening dynamic. Because they both miss each other. And know they work better together than anyone else they'd get paired with. And all of this while the Powers Division itself is under the gun for the "Wolfe Debacle," which was another nice touch since there were so many sloppy parts to the Wolfe arc last year that I'm glad someone, whatever the reason, is being held accountable for it within the show.

One Piece: Burning Blood Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

When it comes to current games based on One Piece, there isn't much room on the Thousand Sunny pirate ship for neophytes. One Piece: Burning Blood reshapes one of the series' most important arcs into a 3D fighting game that'll confuse anyone outside of its fanbase. But as someone heavily invested in the pirate lifestyle of the long-running manga and anime series, I’m impressed with how just dense the crew is on this voyage, even as I wished for better combat and a broader story in Luffy's newest brawler.

Burning Blood's combat will be immediately familiar to anyone who played the underwhelming crossover J-Stars Victory Vs.+. Burning Blood is all about colorful, noisy, one-on-one 3D battles where you swap between fighters in teams of up to three different characters, and the combat is full of flashy action ripped straight from the source. That style makes the early rounds of battle a visual treat, particularly when Haki users enter the fray to pull off some badass dodges and combos. Unfortunately, Burning Blood needs that flash to compel you to learn its somewhat wonky and chaotic approach to combat.

Ex-Lionhead developers launch Kickstarter to fund Fable CCG

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

"Let's bring back Fable!"

That enthusiastic rallying cry tops the Kickstarter page for Fable Fortune, a collectible card game (CCG) that recently landed on Kickstarter courtesy of Flaming Fowl Studios, a conglomerate of developers from now-defunct Fable house Lionhead Studios.

Per the Kickstarter, Fable Fortune will be free-to-play that incorporates time-tested Fable gameplay systems melded with "an array of pioneering game modes." Classic systems include the game's unique brand of morality that lets players make choices tailored to Good or Evil alignments, "hero" characters controlled by players, and spins on cooperative and competitive play.

Fable Fortune is even set in the world of Albion, though the studio is mum on whether there will be cards that players can expect to kick chickens around like loose stones.

Fable Fortune's gameplay should be immediately familiar to veterans of recent digital CCGs like Hearthstone. Players choose from a selection of heroes and cast spells to whittle away at their opponents' health points. Other game systems include the ability to level favorite cards, the ability to wield extra units and spells when certain conditions are met, and completing quests to make Good or Evil choices.

The studio reportedly made excellent progress before asking fans to crowdfund its development. "The good news is that a lot of core systems are already in-game, so we’re a handful of months away from Closed Beta. For a game with this much content, features and polish, our initial Kickstarter goal is relatively low. If successfully funded, the money we raise will be used to complete the first six heroes and two co-op bosses, as well as fund our running costs as thousands of players are brought into the closed beta."

The plan is for Flaming Fowl to get high-level backers access to Fable Fortune's beta within the next couple of months, and add backers from lower tiers in waves as time goes on. Those fans will also be instrumental in helping the game's design coalesce, since not all aspects are set in stone. "We’re looking to build this game with the fans, and then potentially morph and change things about the game over time," Flaming Fowl co-founder and ex-Lionhead developer Mike West told IGN. "This is our starting position - we need to find out what people want from a CCG, and we’re ready to talk to them."

Fable Fortune's publishing history is arguably as interesting as Flaming Fowl's plans for the game. Last we heard, Lionhead Studios went under in part due to Microsoft's refusal to part ways with the Fable license. Microsoft has given the Flaming Fowl founders its blessing to use the IP, but without a publisher, the developers had no choice but to turn to crowd-funding to finish the game.

Flaming Fowl is asking for $365,385 within the next 30 days to successfully fund the project. As of this writing, the studio has raised just over $23,140. Visit the Kickstarter page to learn more.

'Xbox One Virtual Reality' filter pops up on E3 website

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Following rumors of a slimmer Xbox One due out this year and a revamped Xbox One—codenamed Scorpio—slated for 2017, an "Xbox One Virtual Reality" filter has popped up on E3's official website.

Word of the new category comes from NeoGaf users, who also found that several companies have already registered under the filter: Rebellion (Sniper Elite), Maximum Games (Farming Simulator), 3DRudder, and Readily Information Company are among who have thrown their names into the "Xbox One Virtual Reality" hat.

If you don't recognize 3DRudder by name, you soon will. The company manufactures and sells the eponymous 3DRudder, a disc-like controller for your feet instead of your hands. It's meant to be used in conjunction with VR games. The idea is that the 3DRudder gives you a way of "moving" around in virtual reality while you're sitting in a chair: you interact with game worlds using your controller and VR headset, and sway your feet, balanced on the 3DRudder, to imitate walking.

Meanwhile, Readily Information Company concentrates on business-end software for games, namely programs meant to assist with modeling.

We'll get more information on what Readily, 3DRudder, and other companies have in store for VR apps on Xbox One at E3, just a few short weeks away.

Get Nox for free through Origin's current 'On the House' offer

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Once every month or so, Electronic Arts offers a free game, and usually an expansion for another game, for absolutely free through its Origin digital games platform. The publisher's latest offering is Nox, one of the standout Diablo clones of the early 2000s and, in fact, one that beat Diablo 2 to the punch, shipping five months ahead of Blizzard North's juggernaut.

Nox was released in January 2000, developed by the Command & Conquer maker Westwood Studios and published by EA. Unlike Diablo, Nox gives you control over a specific character named Jack, but the class you choose at the beginning of the adventure dictates the abilities at your disposal as you progress.

Nox was a step or two ahead of Diablo 2 in several ways. Many items could only be equipped by specific classes, a feature that didn't make it into Blizzard North's genre-defining sequel until its 2001 expansion pack, Lord of Destruction; and your energy system—used for casting spells—regenerates automatically rather than leashing you to potions and other methods of replenishing mana.

Like every other Origin On the House title, Nox is available until it's not. "Grab full games, expansions and more at absolutely no cost. Just make sure to act fast because On the House specials can appear and disappear at any time," per Origin's website.

If action-RPGs aren't your speed, Origin's also offering Getaway, an expansion for Battlefield Hardline, for free via On the House.

How to Install and Use Mods in Fallout 4 on Xbox One

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

As we learned last week, Bethesda has officially made it possible for Xbox One owners to be able to install mods within their copy of Fallout 4. This marks the first times in recent memory that mods have been made available to console players, and as you’d expect, it might be a bit confusing and overwhelming to get one up and running in your version of Fallout 4.

Don’t worry. We’re here to help.

Hit The Switch!

One of the first things you’ll need to do is update your digital or retail version of Fallout 4. Mod support is officially available, so you should be presented with an update the next time you log into your Xbox One. If you have automatic updates enabled, then you should already be good to go the next time you turn your console on.

Now that Fallout 4 is updated, you should have access to a new “mods” section in the main menu, which sits just below the “add-on” section. Select “mods” and click on it. Next, you’ll be presented with a request for a login for Bethesda.net. Once you log in, you’ll be able to browse through an extensive collection of mods available for the Xbox One version of Fallout 4.

The layout is pretty straightforward. You’ll be able to browse the mods you have installed within the “My Library” section, as well as check out what are some of the most popular mods within the past week. If you continue down, you can check out the Highest Rated, Most Followed, Latest, and then browse alphabetically. You’ll be able to browse from Animals all the way down to Zebras, or at least we think the last category is Zebras.

A Round of Mods for the House!

Now that you’re at the “mods” menu, all you need to do is select what kind of mod you want to play around with. You’ll be able to tweak various aspects of Fallout 4’s gameplay, check out new weapons, adventure to new settlements, and even change your followers. Once you install some mods to your game, your save file will be cloned so you can experience your selected modifications without it affecting your main save file. As a result, you won’t be able to earn any achievements, which is a good thing considering there could be mods whose sole purpose is to earn the player achievements.

As PC players know very well, don’t expect everything to go according to plan once your mods are installed. Some mods may require other mods in order to work, while some may not even work at all once installed. You may even experience some game-breaking bugs when using certain mods. And while Bethesda promises on cracking down on nudity or mods that replicate copyrighted material, don’t be surprised if you see a mod that dips into both of these out-of-bounds areas.

You should also be aware there’s a 2GB limit for mods, which you’ll be able to keep tabs on within the mods menu. You can add as many mods as you like to your game, as long as you keep it at or below 2GB. What happens if you go beyond 2GB? You don’t want to know.

Gotham: Season 2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for Gotham: Season 2 below.

Gotham oh-so slightly improved over its first year in Season 2 by leaning into its penchant for demented violence and doubling up/doubling down on the villains. Of course, not everything clicked and the (over)use of evil-doers really shined a light on how much this show uses Batman's Rogues Gallery -- without Batman -- as a crutch. But there were a few times this year when things came together in fun ways.

Firstly, Cameron Monaghan's Jerome was a psychotic pleasure. No, he's not technically the Joker, but for all intents and purposes, for this show, he was - or is, really, since the season finale teased a return. It's hard to pull off a "Joker" nowadays given the iconic performances associated with that character, but Monaghan was able to make this his own and the episode where he got paired with Barbara, and she did a bit of Harley Quinn channeling, was enjoyable.

Doom sales reach over 500k on PC alone

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Doom is just a little over two weeks old today, and while we wait to hear an official word from Bethesda Softworks regarding how well it’s sold, we know the game has at least sold 500,000 copies on PC alone.

According to SteamSpy, there are over 500,000 Steam users who currently own Doom. Considering the game has been out for over two weeks and this is just data from the PC version of the game, we have a feeling Doom could have reached over a million units sold across all platforms, and possibly even reaching two million units.

This is, of course, purely speculation on our part, although when you consider console versions of AAA games tend to sell more than the PC version, you could see why we’d come to this conclusion.

As of now, all we can do is wait until Bethesda Softworks officially announces Doom’s sales. Let’s just hope it’s enough copies to warrant more Doom from id Software in the near future.

Plague Inc. board game now 10 times more deadly

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

With a game like Plague Inc, you would think that its board game Kickstarter would multiply its stretch goals to make sure it eradicated all of the excess money gathered in its successful campaign. But apparently, Ndemic Creations is content to get the game disseminated quickly so that everyone gets their fix.

With mere hours left before the campaign closes, the game has gathered more than $338,000, almost 10 times the $34,000 originally sought. May campaigns would have continued to add stretch goals to keep the influx of cash coming, but Ndemic stopped adding them after $240,000.

"We unlocked 19 stretch goals, which significantly expand the game, and then stopped once everything that we had scoped and costed had been achieved, Ndemic chief James Vaughan told Shacknews. "It was very tempting to add in even more stuff, but that could have risked damaging the game balance and/or impacting production timelines. Happily, the community has been very supportive of our approach and recognises that the key thing is to have a great game."

Vaughan, who is active in the Shacknews Chatty community as jamiejme, said the game is being developed in English, but localizations is a possibility with the extra $100,000. "There has been a huge amount of demand for localised versions, with German and French being most popular," he said, "so we are currently talking with people to work out how to get things done here."

Of course, with a game named Plague Inc, shipping could be a bit of a headache with Customs. Vaughan even had the wicked idea of adding a sticker that said "May Contain Anthrax," but that might cause more problems than the laugh it would generate.

"It is still something I really want to do, but am waiting to get some feedback from a few people who have had to deal with Customs in the past," he said. "So no promises yet."

If you still haven't gotten your copy of the game, there are still five hours left. There are only three tiers - $30, $36, and $62, so go help out a fellow chatty member on what was an incredibly fun computer game.

Xbox One price drops to $299 two weeks prior to E3 2016

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Just weeks prior to the official start of E3, Microsoft has dropped the price of its 500GB Xbox One console once again to $299.

The Xbox One received its last price cut to $349 last year close to the start of E3 as well, which soon became permanent earlier this year.

According to Microsoft’s Store, not all Xbox One bundles will be available at $299 as the 1TB versions of the console retail for different prices. For example: the Xbox One Rainbow Six Siege Bundle with 1TB drive retails for $319, while Xbox One Tom Clancy’s The Division Bundle with 1TB drive retails for $349. Meanwhile, many 500GB bundles, including the Xbox One Special Edition Gears of War Bundle and Xbox One Special Edition Quantum Break Bundle, retail for $299.

We’ve heard rumors regarding new Xbox One consoles possibly being announced at E3, and with today’s move of reducing the original Xbox One’s price to $299, this could certainly be yet another hint that we could expect something new to be announced in two weeks.

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Sony has announced its lineup of free games that will be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers in June.

PlayStation 4 owners will be able to play NBA 2K16 and Gone Home for free, while PlayStation 3 owners will be given the opportunity to play Echochrome and all episodes of Siren: Blood Curse. PlayStation Vita owners will be able to play yet another God of War game as God of War: Chains of Olympus will be available, as well as Vita launch title, Little Deviants.

As is the case for each month Sony announces free games for PS Plus members, you’ll need to be an active PS Plus subscriber in order to download and play these titles for free. Any lapse in your subscription will not only not allow you to check out June’s games, but any other game you previously downloaded as part of Sony’s PS Plus free offerings will no longer be playable.

The Elder Scrolls Online Dark Brotherhood DLC is pretty bloody

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

PC players who haven't had enough blood and guts in Tamriel will be quite happy with today's release of the Dark Brotherhood DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online. Developer Zenimax Online has been fairly liberal with gruesome executions.

The DLC, which is part of the ESO Plus content (or 2000 in-game crowns if you don't have the upgrade), takes players back to the Gold Coast of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and lets them join the nefarious guild of assassins. For those that didn't play Oblivion, this pack will open up the westernmost region of Cryodiil, with the cities of Anvil and Kvatch ripe for exploration and murder.

Assassins will get new passive abilities that will protect them from consequences of going on a few killing sprees. And as witha ny new DLC, you can get some in-game items as rewards or through the store.

Players on PS4 and Xbox One will need to wait a bit longer to join the Brotherhood. Mark June 14 on your calendar - in blood if you want to get in the proper mood.

WWE 2K17 gets Goldberg as pre-order bonus

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

It's been awhile since we've seen Goldberg climb into the wrestling ring, unless you count that thing called Legends of Wrestling. But the monster who sported an inflated undefeated streak of 173-0 will be showing up in WWE 2K17, provided you pre-order the game.

Goldberg will be available in the personas from his WCW days from 1998-1999, and also from his stint with WWE from 2003-2004. In addition to the wrestler, you'll get two playable arenas from WCW, Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc.

The game is scheduled to be released in October for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Not much else has been released about this iteration of the game from 2K Sports, but there's a trailer:

Rumor: Injustice: Gods Among Us 2 targeted for early 2017

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Injustice: Gods Among Us was somewhat of a surprise hit among fans and critics when it came out in 2013. So it shouldn't come as a shock that a sequel may be coming. The question is what took it so long.

A report on French gaming site Gameblog.fr (via VG 24/7) quotes unnamed sources that the sequel could be announced before E3 by publisher Warner Bros Interactive, with a target release date on March 2017. The fighting game is supposedly in development by NetherRealm, the home of Mortal Kombat, and would use the MK9 game engine. Given that Mortal Komabt X was developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, it stands to reason that NetherRealm would shoot for those platforms again with Injustice 2.

It's all speculation at this point, but with E3 coming soon, we should know more in the next week or so if this is indeed a thing.

Ibuki sneaks into Street Fighter 5 roster in June

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Capcom has announced everyone’s favorite kunoichi, Ibuki, will soon be making her triumphant return in Street Fighter 5.

Ibuki first appeared in Street Fighter III: New Generation, although she returned to the ring in Super Street Fighter IV. She has always been a very mobile character with several target combos, but she is even deadlier in Street Fighter 5 now that she’s able to glide through the air and toss out ninja bombs, which makes it difficult to predict where she’ll land.

Kunais will continue playing an integral role in her playstyle, although now players will need to be more strategic with them as she can only carry five before she needs to obtain another set. In Street Fighter 5, she’s able to throw her entire stock of kunais at her opponent.

Ibuki’s V-Trigger is the Isshaku Horokudama. When her V-Trigger is triggered, Ibuki retrieves several bombs from a bag to throw them at her opponent. The player can dictate just how quickly the bombs can go off by holding the controller in a specific direction. When she connects, she’s able to launch the opponent into the air and attack them by using a series of ninjitsu seals.

Ibuki will be available, as well as a new Story Mode expansion and more content, in June.

Just Cause 3 Mech Land Assault DLC releasing this week

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Hot on the heels of his flight towards the Sky Fortress, Rico will soon be making his way to the island of Lacrima for Just Cause 3’s second content pack, Mech Land Assault on June 3.

Just Cause 3: Mech Land Assault has Rico heading towards Lacrima, where an abandoned eDen research base and prison camp is located. The camp, which is run by the mysterious group only known as Black Hand, is defended by large mechs. Rico will need to harness the power of the new Bavarium Power Core rifle to disable the shields of these mechs to then hijack them.

Once Rico hijacks a mech, he can use its powerful cannons and its GRIP Gravity Guns to fling enemies and anything else with great ease. There are two powerful mechs that can be hijacked, both of which allow Rico to jump into the air to smash helicopters, ground pound tanks, and call in a Rebel Mech buddy to add some extra firepower when the going gets tough. Rico’s mechs can also be upgraded by passing Mech arena challenges.

“The Bavarium Wingsuit from the Sky Fortress DLC fundamentally changed how Rico could traverse Medici. This time, we wanted to shake up how Rico interacts with his environment in a similar way,” explained Tobias Andersson, Senior Producer at Avalanche Studios. “The new Mechs allow Rico to throw enemies, vehicles and chaos objects around like tennis balls – increasing the scope for physics-based fun. Whether you’re juggling a small car or punching helicopters out of the sky, the Mechs give you the opportunity to mess with your surroundings in creative, explosive ways.”

The Mech Land Assault pack is priced at $11.99 and will release for Air, Land, and Sea Expansion Pass owners on June 3, with a wider release following on June 10.

How to get The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Started

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

The Summer is upon us, which means it is time for Geralt of Rivia to travel to new and distant places. The land of love and wine has fallen under a terrible shadow, and only the Witcher can save the Duchy and its people. With other ninety new quests to tackle, and over twenty new enemies to slay, it can be pretty confusing when you try to sit down and figure out where you need to go to get everything started. This guide will take out all the guess work, and point you in the right direction so you can get Geralt’s next adventure rolling.

The first step to getting the new expansion started is to find yourself a Notice Board in the Velen area. We suggest heading to the one in the screenshot below, mostly because it’s a pretty straight shot to your next destination. This will start the Envoys, Wineboys questline.

The next step is to read the notice left by the Knights of Toussaint. It is titled Appeal to Sir Geralt of Rivia, the Bridge his Crest. Once you’ve taken the notice, go ahead and read it. This will update your map marker with a new waypoint at the village of Holloway. Travel there and approach the area knights as they speak to the villagers.

Now you just need to make your way through the coming cutscenes and dialogue. You’ll have an option to deal with some bandits, or just leave them so others worse don’t fill their place, so do as you please there to continue the quest. You’ll also have the option to go ahead and travel to Toussaint, or stick around in the Northern Realms to take care of some more things. Don’t worry if you haven’t finished up the main questline, or any of the other tidbits from the base game and Hearts of Stone, you’ll be able to easily travel back and forth between Toussaint and the Northern Realms using the World Map, just as you did in the base game.

After a bit of conversation, a few cutscenes, and possibly the death of a dozen or so bandits, Geralt and his new friends will head off for the land of love and wine, which will start up a whole field of new troubles for our Witcher friend.

Can't get enough Witcher 3? Check out the first full hour of gameplay from the new expansion pack below.

There are a lot of new things to discover in the land of Toussaint. Don’t miss out on learning how to dye your armor, as well as the locations of all the new Grandmaster gear sets that were introduced in this expansion.

Person of Interest: "Sotto Voce" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

As we entered this final 13-episode run of Person of Interest, I'm sure all of us had a dream list of characters we'd like to see return. While also knowing full well that episode order-wise, and schedule-wise, not every lingering thread would get snipped. But this week - the show doing the best it can from a closure standpoint - The Voice returned to us. The almost Root-style villain who made a phantom appearance back in Season 3's "Last Call." Pulling "a Root," here even, by giving himself a fake identity in order to get close to a mark.

The one thing Root had going for her back at the end of Season 1 that the Voice didn't have this time around was knowledge of the Machine's existence. Because his plot to pose as a besieged locksmith - a victim - in order to wipe out one of his former operatives, would have worked had it not been for Team Machine's ASI and the violent reconciliation between Reese and Fusco. A firefight/last stand shoot 'em up pairing that, by the end, led to a newfound, or re-found, understanding between the two men and Reese finally telling Fusco all the secrets he'd been keeping from him. A profoundly awesome moment. A bit overdue, sure, but very satisfying.

12 Monkeys: "Meltdown" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

This week, the machine was malfunctioning, causing all sorts of people to splinter through and some of them were more splintered than others. This episode was part demon possession story, part horror movie, and while those elements mostly worked, the overall sense of a genuine threat to the facility never really manifested.

Cassie and Jones were both haunted in "Meltdown", Cassie by the Witness and Jones by some of her previous test subjects. Cassie was indeed possessed by the Witness who seems to have the ability to time travel into your brain (provided you've been "prepared"?) and the sequences of the Witness leading her around the facility to do his/her bidding were effectively creepy. And while we've seen some of the gory failures of Dr. Jones' early splintering experiments, seeing some of them moving around and trying to communicate while their insides were on the outside was all appallingly entertaining.

The Do-Over Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The boldest compliment one can pay to The Do-Over, Adam Sandler’s second of four Netflix-exclusive feature films, is that it’s a vast improvement over his last one, The Ridiculous 6. Unlike that slapstick western trainwreck, The Do-Over boasts a more or less coherent story, a few legitimately funny beats, and a mildly compassionate heart buried deep beneath its violent, dated brand of comedy. Other than that though, it’s pretty dreadful.

The story is told from the perspective of Charlie McMillan (David Spade). Charlie, we learn from his own narration, is the definition of a loser. He lives in the same house he grew up in, drives the car he had in high school, and has a depressing job managing a bank located inside a supermarket. His wife openly cheats on him and his stepchildren abuse him mercilessly.

Doom: How to Find All 13 Classic Maps

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

One of Doom’s many nostalgic secrets are its classic maps, a collection of levels from Doom 1 and Doom 2 that can only be accessed by finding a series of levers and hidden doors throughout the campaign. Each mission has one lever and classic map doorway to find, each with some amount of challenge to obtain.

A few tips for you on your quest to find everything:

-          Once you discover these maps, a “Classic Maps” option will unlock in the game’s main menu. You can access the maps directly from here.

-          Many of the classic map entrances and levers will require some backtracking and exploration to locate, so be prepared to move backward if necessary.

-          You will know the lever has been activated and the entrance opened when you hear a guitar riff play after pulling it.

The UAC

Get the blue keycard and enter through the first blue door. Hen you reach a forked path, keep left and jump down into the gap you encounter to find a lever at the bottom. The entrance will be located nearby, toward the end of the path.

Resource Operations

Complete the restoring power objective in the misio, drop into the vehicle entry, then climb to the top of the construction platforms overhead. The lever wll be at the top, and the entrance is directly below.

Foundry

To acces the lever, cross the large bridge in the area, pausing to climb the platform with boxes. The lever is at the top, and the entrance is all the way across the room.

Argent Facility

The lever in the Argent Facility is hidden behind some barrels at the start of the level.

Argent Energy Tower

While riding the transport vehicle in the tower climbing part of the level, you’ll see the lever tucked away at the top of the lift. Go back down the hover lift to find the secret entrance.

Kadingir Sanctum

Venture into the dark corners in the cave, right near the Skyrim Easter egg. The lever will be located nearby. To access the doorway, backtrack a bit to the previous arena, and theentrance will be to the left of the door.

Argent Facility (Destroyed)

The lever in this mission is hidden on a ledge toward the start of the level. It will require platforming to reach and wll be behind the box on the platform.

Advanced Research Complex

The lever here is hidden a bit deeper in the level, on a pipe near the air valve. The door it opens is located toward the start of the level, so be prepared to do some backtracking.

Lazarus Labs

Deep into this mission, you’ll encounter a blood-soaked room with a large hole in its center. The lever is located beneath the right side door when you first enter the room. The hidden door is at the bottom of the pit.

Titan’s Realm

Enter the room after opening the yellow skull key door. The lever will be hidden behind a wall of loose rocks, which can be removed by platforming upward toward the level’s top floor and activating the skull switch. This removes the rocks and will expose the lever. To reach the classic map start, backtrack to the pit toward the star of the level and the classic lever entrance is located to the right of the base of the stairs.

The Necropolis

Toward the start of the level, you’ll be rewarded with a yellow key after entering an arena. Clear out the demons in the arena, and the lever will be located at the opposite side of the room, inside a little alcove. Pull the lever and backtrack a bit to find the entrance to the classic map.

Vega Central Processing

Obtain the blue keycard and gain access to the room where the Elite Guard’s body is located. The guard will be propped up on some boxes, behind which you’ll find the lever. Activate it, and then backtrack to where you originally found the blue keycard. The classic map entry is located at the end of the blue-lit hallway.

Argent D’Nur

The lever in this mission will be slightly more difficult to reach, since it’s locked off and only accessible after activating a skull switch. Near the top of the stairs toward the first wraith, you’ll see the skull switch embedded into the wall.

The switch will open the doorway to the lever. It will be easy to see, since it is located very near the smaller collection of glowing skulls. Enter the door and follow theblood trail toward the lever. The entrance to the classic map is conveniently located to the right of the lever.
