Gamers have been able to express themselves through the use of sprays for several years now across various online multiplayer games, with one of the most popular sprays coming from Counter-Strike, which included the infamous Andre the Giant “Obey” image. Overwatch is no different as you can express yourself in a number of ways, including emotes, greetings, and more, but there’s nothing quite like tagging an enemy you just defeated by spraying an obnoxious image over their lifeless corpse. But how exactly do you use spray in Overwatch? Read on.
Spray and Pray
Spraying in Overwatch is a painless and rewarding experience as all players need to do is press the following corresponding key/button, depending on the platform:
PC: Press the “T” key
Xbox One / PlayStation 4: D-Pad Up
Of course, you’ll need to be facing a flat surface standing just a few feet away. Just like an actual spray can, you can’t spray something that’s too far from you.
You’ll be able to spray nearly all surfaces in Overwatch as you can easily tag walls, buildings, pillars, and even the ground. And as we mentioned above, there’s nothing better than tagging an enemy with the spray right after you take them out.
It’s Called Spray Can, Not Spray Can’t
Blizzard has created a number of sprays that can be used for each individual Hero. There are just a few sprays that all Heroes can use, such as the Overwatch logo, but each has their own individual sprays that can be unlocked by either opening Loot Boxes or by spending credits in the Hero Gallery menu. Considering there are currently 21 Heroes available to play as in Overwatch, we’re impressed by just how many spray images Blizzard created for the game.
Unfortunately, Blizzard doesn’t allow custom spray images to be available in any version of Overwatch. While this may deter some players to use the spray feature considering you can’t give players a personalized greeting or taunt, it was most likely to keep offensive images from being spread throughout the game. And with the game’s T rating, the last thing anyone needs to see in an image of a stripper from Duke Nukem 3D with her top off.
Now that you know how to spray in Overwatch, go forth and tag anything and everything the next time you log into the game.
