South Park: "Skank Hunt" Review

South Park tends to be at its best when it remains focused and when the humor is timeless as well as topical. That’s exactly where the show stumbled coming into its 20th season last week. “Member Berries” cast a very wide net, lampooning everything from the US Presidential race to the National Anthem controversy to the massive success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. By comparison, “Skank Hunt” was a much smaller and more focused installment, and a more enjoyable one as a result.

I’m sure I’m hardly the only one who expected Season 20 to hinge heavily on the Presidential race. It’s the most obvious target, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem to have already lost interest. There was the obligatory “Giant Douche vs. Turd Sandwich” callback this week, but that was it. Maybe the duo just decided that this is one case where nothing they cook up can actually compete with reality. If that’s so, I can’t say I blame them.
