At this point, I can’t help but approach the season finale of any Arrow-verse show with trepidation. The past two years of Arrow especially have ended with finales so lousy they made the entire season worse in hindsight. And with Legends having such a strong showing this year, it would be a shame if the show followed that tradition and failed to stick the landing. Luckily, Legends appears to be one Arrow-verse show that’s completely immune to the season finale curse.
Weirdly, the series managed to break new ground this week through the simple act of revisiting a familiar location. Early on, Rip Hunter established that one of the cardinal rules of time travel is that you can’t keep going back to the same point in time, lest your past and future selves meet and create a destructive time paradox. It’s a rule that’s helped add urgency to the team’s missions, as it ensures that they only ever get one chance to set things right. But it’s also a rule that’s practically begging to be broken. Like Marc Guggenheim said, it’s basically akin to the Ghostbusters crossing the streams.
