Warning: this review contains full spoilers for the episode "XCV"!
This week’s Samurai Jack was a nice callback to the weirder episodes of the series as both Jack and Ashi are swallowed whole by a giant creature and must wander its bulbous, bio electrically-charged insides to find a way out. The real crux of the episode was whether Jack could show Ashi the error of her ways or not, and watching that play out made for a surprisingly touching final scene.
As I’ve been debating (to myself) in these reviews, even though Ashi and the other assassins wanted Jack dead, I would consider them innocent because they’ve been raised since birth to be killing machines and never had a choice in the matter. In the previous episode, Jack resolves to fight the assassins with lethal force by thinking back on the teachings of his father, but the problem there was that it assumed the wrongdoers were acting by choice. This episode, Jack seems to realize this and begins his attempt to break through to Ashi and convince her that, hey, that big demon guy you worship, yeah he’s the real bad guy.
