Arrow: "Honor Thy Father" Review

There are still two more episodes left of Arrow Season 5 after tonight, which is strange considering how much “Honor Thy Fathers” behaved like it was the finale. Ollie reached a major epiphany about his past and finally donned the Green Arrow costume again. He had his big rematch with Prometheus, and by the end of the episode Adrian Chase found himself in ARGUS custody. It’s surprising just how many loose ends were tied up this week. But in the end, that just leaves the show more room to defy expectations over these next two weeks.

There was a real sense of impending finality to the conflict this week, one that was enhanced by the sudden return of the Russian flashbacks. It’s been a while since we’ve touched base with “five years ago” Ollie. His story seemed almost finished in the aftermath of Konstantin Kovar’s defeat, but there’s still the matter of how Ollie returned to the island and arranged his ultimate escape and return to Starling City. This episode didn’t disappoint, both answering that long-running question about why Deathstroke’s mask was left sitting on the beach and offering some strong scenes between Ollie and Anatoly. The warm bond between the two had a tinge of sadness to it, as we know Anatoly is less willing to call Ollie “brother” these days.
