The latest episode of Boruto features, as you may have guessed by the title, another introduction to an all new character. This time it’s Mitsuki, a young ninja from the Village Hidden in the Sound. Rather than giving Mitsuki all the spotlight this episode takes an unexpected turn, instead focusing more on the hapless teacher Shino as he struggles to wrangle his unruly class. The result is a fun but slightly messy episode that primarily serves to prepare us for a major encounter next week.
The episode starts off with an encounter between Boruto and a disruptive ninja, who is quickly dispatched by the mysterious new student Mitsuki. Mitsuki’s strength quickly gains the attention of the rest of the class, and his misunderstanding of social norms derails every one of Shino’s ninja lessons. Shino’s faith in his abilities as a teacher dwindles, and he is soon taken over by the same evil force that previously had its hooks in Metal and Denki. Much like Sarada, Mitsuki gets sidelined in his premiere episode, and many of his developmental scenes feel rushed and out of place. For that reason I didn't mind the change in direction this time around because instead we get a surprisingly interesting look into Shino.
