Attack on Titan Episode 37 Review

The following review contains spoilers for the episode.

The battle over Eren came to its dramatic conclusion as he learned a new truth about himself. This truth was sparked by one of the most well-crafted moments in Attack on Titan. The rest of the episode didn’t hold back either, resulting in a great send-off as Season 2 of Attack on Titan came to a close.

Hannes’ death sparked what is possibly the best moment in Attack on Titan so far. This scene is handled near perfectly, but I particularly liked the stillness of it all. Only Eren mattered during this moment, and the absolute silence during his cries hammered this home. It then excellently transitioned into Mikasa’s loving reveal of the truth, with the silence being broken by a soft tune as she poured her heart out to him. Beyond the animation and music, this moment shows Eren’s character evolving, something that he has needed for some time. His rage got him this far, but Episode 37 makes it clear that his love for Mikasa is what’s needed to push him further.
