This review contains spoilers for the Season 2 premiere of The Sinner.
While many critics loved The Sinner’s first season, it wasn’t as much of a home run for me as it was for some; never quite striking the right balance between being the TV equivalent of a pulpy beach read and a smart introspection on psychological trauma. But based on the premiere alone, Season 2 already seems to be much closer to finding that middle ground where both instincts can support each other, rather than existing independently. This episode feels like the first couple chapters of the second in a series of crime novels. It moves faster, it’s more shocking, and it’s more personal to the lead character.
