Rock Band 4 legacy DLC now available for download -- one track at a time

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

For most people that plan to pick up Rock Band 4 when it releases next week, there's likely a glut of DLC just sitting inside their old-gen consoles. So with the release date nearly at hand, the question becomes, how does that DLC go from the old and busted to the new hotness? Harmonix has opened the floodgates today and has offered detailed instructions on how to bring legacy DLC to Rock Band 4.

First off, brew a pot of coffee or crack open a beer, because this is going to take a while.

"First and foremost, you will have to re-download each DLC entitlement individually in order to play these tracks in Rock Band 4," associate community manager Christine Burki explains on the Harmonix blog. "Due to 1st party technical restrictions, we are unable to support batch downloads within the 1st party stores. If you want your DLC downloaded to your console, you will have to re-download tracks individually."

With that said, here's how everyone will want to go about recovering their DLC:

Xbox One

  • Sign in to your Xbox Live account associated with past Rock Band DLC.
  • Enter the Store and pull up the Rock Band 4 listing.
  • All legagy DLC tracks (that haven't had their licenses expire) are now available. Find them under Add-Ons.
  • Pull up any tracks you already own. There should be no charge for a re-download if it has been purchased previously, so simply hit "Install."
  • Repeat the process a couple of hundred times.

PlayStation 4

  • Sign in to your PlayStation ID account associated with past Rock Band DLC.
  • Navigate the PlayStation Store and pull up the Rock Band 4 listing.
  • All legagy DLC tracks (that haven't had their licenses expire) are now available. Find them under Add-Ons.
  • Filter the long list to either "Free" or "Low-to-High" to find any tracks that were already purchased. Hit "Download" on your selected track.
  • Repeat the process a couple of hundred times.

Let's just say it's a good thing that Rock Band 4 doesn't arrive until Tuesday, October 6, because this could be a long weekend for Rock Band users.
