The rumors surrounding a new 4K version of the PlayStation 4 appear to be picking up steam as the Wall Street Journal is now reporting a more powerful version of the console may be coming.
In the report, Sony is said to be working on a PlayStation 4 model that will be able to handle “higher-end gaming experiences”, which includes virtual reality content. Those with a current PS4 will need to purchase this new model in order to benefit from its powerful innards, meaning there won’t be a way to upgrade your current console.
The new PS4 is expected to be announced prior to the October release of PlayStation VR, which would be good timing if Sony also launches the console close to its reveal. If not, the announcement could impact on its holiday sales since new customers would want to purchase this new console over the less powerful one.
