12 Monkeys: "Blood Washed Away" Review

The penultimate episode of 12 Monkeys Season 2 was the story of two failed missions, As Cole and Cassie failed to stop the 1957 paradox, just as Pallid Man knew they would, and the trip to Titan ended in death, just as Jennifer predicted. The episode did kind of have a (ahem) happy ending for some of our heroes, but juxtaposed between the deaths of almost everyone else, it seemed like a very bad thing.

In 2045, it was fun to be out in the "Walking Scavs" world and see just how bad it is. It's too much for the recently time-transplanted Jennifer, who is cracking under the strain of leadership. In "Resurrection" we witnessed the powerful scene where a dying Jennifer got to impart wisdom to her younger self. If you could talk to your younger self, you would know what you needed to tell yourself, but "Blood Washed Away" is the flip side to that coin. Your younger self could simply not handle your current responsibilities. Jen's Daughters don't respect this young, lost version of herself at all, nor does she care for where she ended up.
