Batman #5 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

A number of puzzle pieces fall into place as Tom King and David Finch wrap up the opening storyline on Batman. This issue not only offers a rousing showdown between the Dark Knight and his would-be ally, Gotham, it offers an enticing glimpse at how that conflict feeds into the larger plan for the series and what the future holds for Batman.

First things first, it's great to see that at least one DC Rebirth comic managed to make it through an entire, full-length story arc without bringing in fill-in artists. Granted, David Finch is joined by three different inkers, but that's still far preferable to seeing Finch replaced. Other than the differences in line weight from one inker to the next, this issue still offers a bold, stylish take on Batman's clash with Gotham. The detail in the figures and environments never fails to impress. Finch also displays great emotional range in this issue as the story veers into some pretty somber territory. That's aided by colorist Jordie Bellaire, who continues to generate just the right mood for the book.
