This was a very dense episode. While light on action, this week added some much needed plot progression and clearly laid out a roadmap for the finale. Everyone had a personal moment and in a lot of ways showed the potential this series has had since the beginning. Where previously one character's development usually came at the cost of another's, this week everyone was in sync, and the entire cast benefited from the cohesion.
John Donovan was the standout character this episode. Jimmy Smits is a very capable actor and he finally had some material to showcase those talents. This hour begins with Donovan on the verge of tears, terrified of the entire world watching his wife's murder, while being completely powerless to stop it. He ends the episode defiant, holding the Director of National Intelligence hostage in the Pentagon. Donovan has generally been underdeveloped this season, but this episode did a lot of good for the presidential hopeful.
