With Secret Empire looming closer, we're seeing the Hydra Cap conflict start to spill out into other books more and more. It's certainly exciting to see the scope of the conflict grow in these final weeks leading up to the main event. On the other hand, it's no longer possible to get a complete, cohesive story solely by reading Captain America: Steve Rogers. If you haven't read Uncanny Avengers #22, prepare for a jarring transition into this new issue.
Steve Rogers #15 opens on an awkward note as it abruptly picks up where that other comic left off. Fortunately, it's not long before writer Nick Spencer settles into a groove again. This issue explores the fate of Red Skull following his run-in with the Avengers Unity, but also how his relationship with Herr Rogers has changed and evolved to suit Kobik's new reality. The two remain bitter enemies, but for very different reasons. The recurring flashbacks have become a familiar motif with this series, but the interplay between past and present is especially effective in this chapter.
