Peter Parker has really come full circle in 2018. Where a year ago he was one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the Marvel Universe, now he's back to being a broke, struggling, perpetually unloved loser. He's gone from bankrolling the Avengers to being a loner again. If anything, the current volume of Amazing Spider-Man has oversold that transition a bit. Spider-Man is treated like a pariah in the superhero community for no real reason. Luckily, issue #8 takes full advantage of Peter's outsider status as it establishes a new threat to the Marvel U.
The stakes in this issue are much higher than in the previous, Boomerang-focused storyline. An old enemy has returned in a new form, and Spider-Man is quite literally the only hero equipped to do something about it.
