Nintendo Wii U production will reportedly end in 2016

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

While Nintendo fans wait for new details to be revealed regarding the Nintendo NX, a report has been published saying the Nintendo Wii U will stop being manufactured some time this year.

Japan’s Nikkei reports Nintendo has already stopped manufacturing a number of Wii U accessories, and while the Wii U hardware is expected to be discontinued this year, that in no way guarantees the Nintendo NX will launch this year.

With the cease in manufacturing expected to take place this year, that means Nintendo plans on depleting its inventory by the end of 2016. That doesn’t necessarily mean the Wii U will just vanish as we’re sure there will still be enough in production to last several months after 2016.

Meanwhile, that rumor of The Legend of Zelda being released on both the Wii U and Nintendo NX looks pretty interesting right about now.
