Robert Workman, creator of The Walking Dead, gave Telltale plenty of room to breathe when the studio launched the first two seasons of its adventure-game series. However, Season 3—expected to launch later this year—will inch up to the events chronicled in the comics, according to Kirkman, who teased new details in a video interview with IGN.
"I think, similar to the Michonne series, there will probably be some more comic book elements that will be working into things in some interesting ways," he said, referring to Telltale's well-received Michonne spinoff that bridged the gap between Seasons 2 and 3. "I don't want to reveal too much, but it'll definitely go hand in hand with the comics a little bit more than season two did."
Of particular note is the return of Clementine, who played a supporting role in Season 1 before taking the lead in Season 2. "We'll be checking in on Clementine again, so we'll be seeing her, seeing where she's at and what's going on with her, which is going to be great," Kirkman said.
He did not spell out what role Clementine would play, though fans should expect her to have aged a few years.
The Walking Dead: Season 3 is expected to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year, with other platforms added into the mix as needed.
