We learned earlier this year Square Enix would be porting Final Fantasy 9 onto PC, iOS, and Android. While the mobile ports already released back in February, PC owners are waiting for their chance to relive the RPG, although we should probably expect another mobile-to-PC port, like Final Fantasy 6.
According to Square Enix, the PC version of Final Fantasy 9 will require the use of Android plug-ins, specifically Android Support Library, Android SDK plug-ins, and even several Google Play Games plug-in. This has lead many to believe Final Fantasy 9 won’t be a direct port of the original PlayStation version, but will instead be a port of the mobile version that was released earlier this year.
Now that we know Final Fantasy 9 will require several Android plug-ins, we hope Square Enix has learned from its past with the release of Final Fantasy 6. The better the optimization for the PC audience, the less likely there will be backlash from longtime fans of the series.
