What do we know about Outlast 2, the spooky survival horror sequel currently in development over yonder at Red Barrels? We know we won't be combing the narrow warrens of Mount Massive Asylum, the setting of the first game, released in 2013. We know, also, that the game will still be played in first-person and predicated on heavy use of a camera equipped with night-vision mode, and it "will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do," according to studio co-founder Phillipe Morin.
A new teaser published earlier today sheds faint, dusky, scary light on... well, a future teaser, apparently. Today's teaser, titled "Jude 1:14-15," shows an inverted cross emblazoned against a stormy sky. The title references Bible verses that discuss the Big Guy in the Sky rounding up a posse and judging you, and you, and also you, reciting a laundry list of sins, including that time you... well, you know what you did.
At first blush, the trailer speaks in gibberish, so a bunch of sinners on YouTube made like investigative journalist Miles Upshur and dissected it. Their findings revealed that Red Barrels' official teaser actually plays backwards. Flip the script, and you get a recording that seems to hint at another, more direct reveal later this month, as indicated by a snippet that goes "on the fourth month and twenty second day of the sixteenth year of the third millennium, our reckoning begins."
Until we learn more, stock up on camcorder batteries and prepare to "outlast" Outlast 2 when it hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 this fall.
