Square Enix donates $457000 to Japan Red Cross Society

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Two earthquakes devastated Kumamoto last week. The first hit at a magnitude of 5.4; the second measured 7.3. Twenty-nine people were killed and thousands were left injured. Now famed Japanese developer/publisher Square Enix has stepped up to help the affected regions recover and rebuild.

In a statement published on its website, Square Enix disclosed a donation of $457,000 (or 50 million yen) to Japan Red Cross Society. "Square Enix Group extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to all those affected by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake," per the online statement.

According to CBS, the two epicenters were rather shallow; since the quakes hit nearer the surface, significantly worse shaking caused greater damage than might have occurred had the epicenters been deeper below the surface.

Square Enix made the donation "with the hope to support the earliest possible relief and recovery of affected regions."
