Full spoilers for "Thirty-Nine Graves" continues below.
The road to Fillory is fraught with danger, but finally, at the end of the second-to-last episode of The Magicians: Season 1, we've made it: all of the main characters have arrived in the magical land.
The big twist in "Thirty-Nine Graves" is that everything that's happening now has happened before. Quentin tricks Dean Fogg into drinking a truth potion, and the head of Brakebills finally spills the beans on what's been happening. Jane Chatwin -- aka Eliza, of course -- created a time loop to try to find a way to defeat the Beast. Every time Quentin dies and they fail, so every time she tries something different. This is the 39th timeline, but with Jane dead, it also apparently will be the last. Fun side note: The Magicians seems to be hinting that the events of Lev Grossman's novels is a different timeline based on Victoria's Margo/Janet comment, which is a really fun way of Star Trek-ing this universe into being cohesive.
