Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare screenshots reveal more from the game

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

This morning, we woke up to the official announcement of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and the trailer took us to infinity and beyond, courtesy of David Bowie and Major Tom. Now, we are getting some new screenshots to go with the game and the Modern Warfare remaster, as well as more details on the campaign.

As as been speculated, Infinite Warfare will take the franchise into space, but it appears there will be a bit more emphasis on story this time. Players will take the role of a commander named Capt. Reyes, a Tier 1 Special Operations pilot at the helm of the warship Retribution. The setting has Earth stripped of much of its natural resources because of excess population growth and industrial expansion. Space colonies now mine planets and asteroids for fuel and resources. The United Nations Space Alliance is the Earth defense force, but it has been besieged by a splinter group that broke away a few years ago, know as the Settlement Defense Front. It is this splinter group that is threatening the colonies and giving the UNSA all it can handle.

Even though ground combat is still a part of the game, the addition of air and space combat in warships will add a different element to the game. the Retribution will act as a home base for the player. It will not only house the crew, but also bring some strategic elements to different missions. And when the Retribution is a little too much for a particular mission, players will be able to pilot a smaller space fighter known as a Jackal.

The trailer and the screens really look high quality, so it will be interesting to see if the graphics come as advertised. And from what has been shown, it seems like Infinity Ward is going for a more realistic look at the future instead of the "pew-pew, we got lasers" route.

Don't forget the livestream on the Twitch Call of Duty channel in another hour and a half.
