Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
If this week’s episode of The Flash proved anything, it’s that the show can give Arrow a run for its money in the darkness department. “Rupture” served as a particularly brutal and gut-wrenching addition to Season 2. It certainly elevated Zoom into a more terrifying villain than ever, and it forced Barry to make the ultimate sacrifice in his quest to protect his city from his twisted foe. This episode was a perfect way to dial up the tension and raise the stakes for the show as it moves closer to the big finale.
Last week’s episode ended with Dr. Wells vowing to recreate the particle accelerator explosion and give Barry his speed back. But as we quickly learned, this doesn’t mean Barry was ready to take Wells up on his offer. And why shouldn’t he be hesitant? The original accident may have given the city its greatest hero, but it also spawned dozens of metahumans who have been all too willing to abuse their powers. Barry recognized what Wells is too bullheaded to ignore - that you can’t flirt with that level of power and not expect dark consequences as a result.
