Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 2 Falls Short of the Original

DC's Earth One imprint may seem increasingly unnecessary given how much DC has worked to make its core superhero line more accessible in recent years. Still, the Earth One books have their appeal. The most successful to date, including Wonder Woman: Earth One and Green Lantern: Earth One, are those that have focused as much on reinterpreting and modernizing classic characters as making those characters accessible for newcomers. Unfortunately, even the best Earth One books tend to feel constrained by the self-contained graphic novel format, and Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 2 is no exception.

With the first volume having chronicled Diana Prince's initial journey into man's world, Vol. 2 explores the inevitable global backlash to the emergence of a beautiful, immortal Amazon princess preaching a message of tolerance and submission. New villains emerge to threaten that mission and take advantage of the fantastical technology Themiscyra has to offer.
