Marvel Heroes 2016 assembles today with Black Cat, Agent Venom Team-Up, and more

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Gazillion was first aiming for the Marvel Heroes 2016 update to arrive in December, but the developer wound up pushing that back to an unspecified January date. Then January started flying by with no indication that the update was coming, as it started to look more and more like the update would miss another month. But out of nowhere, Gazillion has announced that the big update is here, just narrowing hitting its targeted January window.

The Marvel Heroes 2016 update was first unveiled back at PAX Prime in August and everything promised at that panel is ready for action. That includes a visual updates to the game's characters, a whole new "Secret Invasion" story chapter, controller support for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Steam, and Logitech controllers, Steam Achievements, and the removal of the beta tag for the Mac version. That's not all that's included in this update, though.

This update also sees the Black Cat making her playable debut, voiced by Jennifer Hale, who is reprising her role from the classic 1990s Spider-Man animated series. For those unfamiliar with her, Felicia Hardy is a cat burglar that's often crossed the law, but has found herself in a charming on-and-off relationship with Spidey. That is until recently, when a run-in with Superior Spider-Man (Doc Ock in Peter's body) has not only left her vengeful, but also led to her becoming quite the powerful crime boss.

She's joined by Agent Venom, who hits the game as the latest Team-Up character. This version of the symbiote warrior is interesting, as this Venom is the paraplegic Flash Thompson, whose hardened discipline on the battlefield is able to keep the symbiote's murderous urges in check.

Finally, another existing hero has gotten a revamp and considering he's getting the big screen spotlight in two weeks, who better to overhaul than Deadpool? The Merc with a Mouth now has new animations, effects, nine all-new moves, and even a Zen Deadpool costume.

Since making the jump to Marvel Heroes 2015, the number of playable Heroes, Team-Up characters, pets, and costumes has leaped exponentially. That's the level of progress that Marvel Heroes 2016 is looking to match. An idea of what's ahead was teased a few weeks ago, but if 2016 is anything like 2015, it looks like Marvel Heroes will only continue to get better for the True Believers out there.
