Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
The two-and-a-half-year gap between the fifth and six seasons of The Venture Bros. is, unfortunately, par for the course at this point. There's a newfound sense of urgency with this new season, though. The Venture Bros. has acquired stiff new competition in the form of shows like Bojack Horseman and Rick and Morty, and this new season needs to prove that Team Venture still has what it takes to stand out. Luckily, it's clear from the Season 6 premiere that Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer haven't lost their edge.
It's remarkable how smoothly this episode transitions from the events of "All This and Gargantua-2" into the new status quo. It helps that the show has an unusually clean slate given how many running plot threads were wrapped up last time. "Hostile Makeover" picked up essentially right where that special left off. Dr. venture just inherited his brother's vast fortune and company, Dr Killinger has assumed control of the Guild of Calamitous Intent, and the Monarch is now homeless and living in his dilapidated childhood home. Everyone's fortunes have shifted, but as always, failure is the common thread that links every character together.
