Maybe it's appropriate that a comic focused on such a impulsive, mercurial protagonist would itself be scatterbrained in its focus and pacing. That doesn't make the increasingly odd story structure of Harley Quinn any less frustrating. The series constantly seems to be stuck in mid-transition from one conflict to the next, and that remains the case as the book moves forward from Harley's recent run-in with the Joker.
Writers Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti cover familiar ground in this issue, with Harley fretting over the hectic mess her life has become and the many responsibilities tugging her to and fro. Along the way, she suffers fro ma little post-Joker PTSD, beats up a gang of beach thugs, deals with a sexual harasser, gets a trendy makeover and prepares for her next roller derby match. Running alongside all of this is a subplot setting up what looks to be the next big villain in Harley's life. All of this material is entertaining. By now Conner and Palmiotti have honed their portrayal of Harley down to a science. She's amusing, lovable but possessed of a fearsome mean streak reserved strictly for those who deserve it.
