Once Upon a Time: "Devil's Due" Review

You know that awkward moment when you meet the woman who is both the mother of your ex and the ex-lover of your current boyfriend? Actually, I hope you don't know any such moment. Emma, however, experienced it in the most recent episode of Once Upon a Time. "Devil's Due" saw Mr. Gold turn to Milah for assistance in retrieving Hook from Hades' grasp, and his introduction of Emma to Milah was amusing. This kind of delightful weirdness only happens in soap operas and Once Upon a Time, and I ate it up.

Milah's a character I've been wanting to see more of, and this was an ideal situation to bring her back. As we've already seen, the Underworld presents all sorts of opportunities to reach into the past, and this was a good use of the power. She's especially interesting because of the role she played in making Rumple become the Dark One. The flashback didn't illustrate anything new about their relationship or how she pushed him and needled him about being a coward (she was mean, if we're being honest), but the timing made Gold's line to her before he tossed her into the River of Lost Souls cut deeper.
