Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
First off, apologies for the lateness of this review, especially with this being the season finale. But maybe it's appropriate, considering that "Red means Stop" didn't play much like a proper finale. While the show did a better job than expected of rekindling momentum in the Blue Morpho storyline, ultimately this episode failed to offer much resolution to what has generally been the most consistently strong season in Venture Bros. history.
I worried that Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer painted themselves into a corner last week by having Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and the Guild discover that Dr. Venture and Blue Morpho aren't, in fact, one and the same. That seemed to rob the show of its drama at the worst possible time. But they managed to find a way to escalate the Blue Morpho conflict anyway. The idea of wrapping up the season with an unlikely alliance between the Guild and the O.S.I. was inspired. With one of the big themes this season being the thin line between good and evil, seeing the two factions united towards a common goal just felt right.
