Deadpool #10 Review

This current "Deadpool vs. Sabretooth" storyline has succeeded because it's focused less on pitting the two characters against one another in open combat and more on the psychology of the two characters. That's why Deadpool #10 is a disappointing addition to the arc. This issue is more action and humor-oriented, and neither element proves as compelling as the character drama from previous issues.

Issue #10 starts out well enough, with Wade and Victor pausing their feud to eat in a roadside diner and their mutual hostility slowly bubbling to the surface. Here the humor works, mainly thanks to the hapless waitress who wanders in and out of the panel in fear for her life. But as the focus shifts to a high-speed chase and Wade playing the vengeful action hero, the book quickly loses its appeal. Deadpool's one-liners simply aren't very amusing. That's been a flaw with Gerry Duggan's Deadpool work from the beginning. This series works best when it emphasizes absurd situational humor over quips and timely pop culture references.
