If there's one thing PC gamers don't care for, it's being constrained by console specifications and standards. Doom, in open beta until just recently, caught flak for its lack of advance settings. id Software CTO Robert Duffy published a blog addressing capped framerates "and other PC features that weren’t emphasized in the Beta for various development reasons.
According to Duffy, the PC version will NOT be capped at launch. "Further, the PC version of DOOM will expose a comprehensive set of advanced game and rendering options that will allow players to dial the experience up or down based on their individual desires or hardware capabilities," the developer confirmed.
Duffy tailored the rest of his blog to a specific audience: players who, like id itself, has PC gaming in their DNA. Extolling the virtues of being able to tinker with settings for maximum performance, Duffy listed the features found under Doom's advanced settings menu, including an FOV slider, quality of lighting and shading, toggles for lens flare and dirt, UI opacity, reticle selections, and the quality of decals and reflections, among other settings.
