Batman #36 Review

You really never know what to expect with each new Batman story arc. That's a good thing, especially with the "Rules of Engagement" arc being such an uncharacteristically lackluster outing for the series. Fortunately, the book has no trouble bouncing back in Batman #36, as the strained relationship between Batman and Superman takes precedence.

Conceptually, "Superfriends" is cut from the exact same cloth as titles like Superman/Batman and Batman/Superman. The focus is once again on the relationship between the two heroes, with each character reflecting on the other through the use of parallel storytelling. But if the premise isn't groundbreaking, the execution certainly makes all the difference. Writer Tom King has used the parallel storytelling format to great effect in past Batman/Catwoman stories (including last week's stellar Batman Annual #2). It turns out that format suits Batman and Superman equally well.
