"Alright, Phil. Enough sightseeing."
Coulson's words right at the end of this week's SHIELD chapter, "A Life Spent," were notable in that it represented a central character, after an entire episode dealing with future minutia, recalibrating his priorities. Because what are the stakes here in space? In future space? There are always the immediate dangers but then there's the larger "get back home and erase this entire timeline" issue.
During a nice moment from earlier in the episode, Phil wondered if his fate, as someone who'd cheated death, was always destined for the stars and a mission to save all of humanity. May had other ideas. More grounded ideas. She knew, as we assumed she would, that everything here was sort of a facade - not unlike the Framework (which I compared this storyline to last week). Bottom line: May wants to go home. And her touching Phil's hand, which was already on her shoulder, let us know she was craving a bit of peace and tranquility. And - well - Phil.
