This is a SPOILER-FREE review of Black Lightning: “The Resurrection.”
Lightning has struck for a fifth time with the newest addition to The CW’s stacked live-action superhero lineup -- joining Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. While Black Lightning won’t be involved with the rest of the crew in a 5-way crossover anytime soon, there is plenty to get excited about when the series premieres on January 16th.
Black Lightning is the story of retired superhero Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) and his struggle to keep the peace in his neighborhood without putting on a mask and shooting lightning bolts at criminals. By day, Jefferson is the best-dressed principal of all-time at a local charter school. He’s also a divorced father with two strong-willed daughters -- Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain).
