Ultra Instinct has activated, and with it, Universe 7 creeps one step closer to survival. Episode 129 sees Goku rise beyond his limits and showcases just how mighty the Saiyan race can be. While the pacing wasn’t consistent, the excellent animation and well-timed commentary helped turn a short fight into a thrilling build-up to the unlocking of true Ultra Instinct power.
Several scenes that involved stare-downs and repeated combat visuals dragged down the beginning of the episode. This may have been acceptable earlier in the Tournament of Power, but we’ve now spent weeks watching Jiren battle and know that what’s happening is meaningless to him. This is only compounded by the strange decision for Super to so blatantly spoil what happens in the episode with the title. While it was expected Goku would reach Mastered Ultra Instinct, the show forecasting that before even having a chance to watch the episode deflates the build-up to that moment.
