Black Sails: Season 3 Premiere Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Black Sails kicked off its third season with a darkened, changed Flint, a peg-legged Silver, an incarcerated Eleanor, and - as this year's grand pirate entry - Blackbeard. Played by Ray Stevenson, who received the "Ned Low" introductory treatment. Though I assume Blackbeard will stick around longer than Low did.

Stevenson didn't have that much to do here, but his debut still sparked. Well-spoken, clever, and lethal, his performance instantly reminded me of why I loved him so much on Dexter in that show's seventh season. He really is great at playing up the charm and nobility of a characters who are more or less merciless and savage. By the end of the episode, Blackbeard, who we witnessed take out three men (brothers of Blackbeard's abandoned bride) in a blink, was searching for Vane. Not a huge surprise if you're someone who knows the basics about these two pirates being comrades in real life, but still an interesting way to close out this premiere.
