Warning: Spoilers for the Season 14 finale of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia follow...
Always Sunny closed up shop on its fourteenth (and final?) season with a double-header (though not a two-parter) that crescendoed with "Waiting for Big Mo" - a bottle episode laced with not only the usual tragicomedy of the series in general, but with some sadness seeping in from saddling up to Samuel Beckett's famous play "Waiting for Godot."
We don't need to dive into the Godot parallels too much, but they're there, and funny for those who know the play. The tree that Beckett's characters Vladimir and Estragon wait by, while bickering and debating the ultimate futility of toiling for life's unknown endgame, is now "Green Base." Life is laser tag. Godot is an unseen hot shot child using the tag Big Mo. It's a quirky, esoteric episode that nicely uses The Gang's dependable dysfunction to scrape at some larger ideas. It could also act as a series finale if, somehow, FX doesn't announce a Season 15 renewal.
