Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
For being the fall finale, tonight's Blindspot sure still felt like another filler episode -- at least for the first half hour or so. Mostly, "Evil Handmade Instruments" was a followup to David's murder from last week, which, wouldn't you know it, was tied to Russian espionage. (It's always the Russians, isn't it?)
In terms of that case, this week's plot was littered with leads and suspects -- probably about a dozen names rattled off over the course of the episode. But really the only name that mattered was Kate Williams, the Soviet spy who murdered David. But compared to previous episodes, the Russians' big plan wasn't all that far-reaching. Basically, they just wanted to wipe out some defectors who were speaking out against Russia's policies, which was pretty "meh" by Blindspot's usual end-of-the-world standards. (One of the characters even mentioned how David was the first and only casualty from it.)
