Shakedown Hawaii is the follow-up to Retro City Rampage

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Retro City Rampage was an interesting mixture of nostalgic references and modern open-world gaming ultraviolence. The 8-bit Grand Theft Auto-style adventure was released back in 2012 on PC and gradually released on just about all major platforms, so it would appear that developer Vblank Entertainment is ready to move to its next project. That project was announced yesterday in the form of a sequel called Shakedown Hawaii.

Shakedown Hawaii is being billed as the follow-up to Retro City Rampage and, indeed, upon viewing the trailer, it appears that the open-world mayhem of its predecessor will remain intact. The idea is still to wreak as much havoc as possible in an overhead Grand Theft Auto-style setting. The major difference is an upgrade an graphics, going from 8-bit to 16-bit. This is a sign of the story moving forward, taking place years after the original Retro City Rampage and with its main character coming out of retirement for more chaos.

Not much else is known about Shakedown Hawaii, but PlayStation Experience attendees will have a crack at a playable build during next weekend's event. Shakedown Hawaii does not have a projected release window, but it is set to come to PC, PlayStation 4, Vita, and Nintendo 3DS.
