There's a fascinating dynamic that exists between Batman and his various Robins in the Dark Knight Returns universe. Say what you will about All-Star Batman & Robin, but that book made it abundantly clear why Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson had such a dysfunctional relationship in The Dark Knight Strikes Again. As for Jason Todd, readers only know that he "was a good soldier" and died in the line of duty some time before the events of The Dark Knight Returns. With this prequel comic, Frank Miller finally has the chance to tell the story of Jason Todd's final days. The Last Crusade offers an intriguing glimpse into the pre-DKR era, but the format proves too limiting for the story Miller and his collaborators are trying to tell.
